The story goes that it was given by the fairy of Mount Crystal to the daughter of King Sorapiss, a very capricious little girl called Misurina. This pretty little girl begged her father for the fairy’s magic mirror, so that she could read the thoughts of anyone reflected in the crystal-clear waters of the lake.
The fairy resisted for a long time so as not to indulge the little girl’s umpteenth whim, but in the face of the king’s tears, he ended up granting Misurina’s wish under very difficult conditions.
The fairy, in fact, had a beautiful garden full of beautiful flowers on Mount Crystal, but the excessive sun made the flowers wither. He therefore decided that in exchange for the magic mirror, the king should transform himself into an imposing mountain to protect the fairy’s beautiful garden from the blazing sun.
Within moments, as Misurina contemplated her great mirror, King Sorapiss began his transformation, swelling and changing colour. His hair became trees and his wrinkles deep crevasses, thus giving rise to the majestic Sorapiss group.
This legend also became famous thanks to a song by Claudio Baglioni recorded on the album Sabato pomeriggio.
