Have you ever heard of the legend of the Schlern Witches?

The Schlern region in South Tyrol has always been regarded as the meeting point of the dreaded Schlern witches, known as Schlernhexen. Some people, such as Hansel, who lived at the foot of the mountain with his wife, have spotted these witches in the past.

One day, while Hansel’s wife was collecting water at the fountain, she saw a black shadow and dark clouds in the sky, accompanied by an ominous buzzing sound.

Hansel grabbed his rifle with blessed ammunition and shot towards the sky, killing a witch who fell near the farmyard. This event terrified Hansel for years.

Today, there are several places on the Alpe di Siusi that commemorate the Sciliar Witches, including the ‘Witches’ Spring’ trail on the high plateau and the ‘Witches’ Benches’, special rocks on Mount Bullaccia. Very popular destinations to visit, both for young and old.
